Subway tunnel U4

Location: Hamburg, Germany

  • 710-m long subway tunnel as component of the south-eastern extension of the U4 from the subway station “HafenCity Universität” to the new stop “Elbbrücken“.
  • The route with a total of 1.3 km mostly runs below the Versmannstrasse at a depth of about 20 meters.


  • Manufacturing of trough and tunnel in open-cut tunneling method – at a depth of up to 20 meters within a diaphragm wall excavation pit.
  • Semi-monolithic fabrication of a total of 71 tunnel segments with concreting cycles of 10 meters each – walls and slab in one pour.
