Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) | Transitional structure, China

The fabrication of the high side and center walls as well as the breakwaters for two transitional structures is carried out with mobile PERI portal formwork carriages – with a fast cycle sequence and in highest quality.
Side walls and center wall were constructed with the help of three PERI formwork carriages.
Also for the massive breakwater, the construction team used a mobile wall formwork solution.
300-meter long ramp structures with high walls in architectural concrete quality serve as entrance and exit of the 6-km HZMB tunnel.

  • East and west transitional structures with tunnel entrances and breakwaters
  • 300-meter long side walls with up to 56-meter wide ramp structures and a wall thickness of 2.50 meters.
  • 6 lanes into the tunnel portals with a longitudinal gradient of 3 %
  • Separation of the directions of traffic through reinforced concrete walls of up to 15.50 meters which serve as supports for the roofing

The 35 km long Hongkong-Zhuhai- Macao road connection is located in the area of the approach flight path of the Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, in an underwater tunnel. This 6 km long immersed tunnel had already been successfully built with PERI know-how – the shell construction for the east and west transitional structures was the next stage to be completed. For this, two artificial islands were created in the southern Chinese Pearl River Delta. 6 lanes lead into the two tunnel portals with a 3 % longitudinal gradient.
