Flexibility in residential construction: Formwork and scaffolding from a single source in the ‘Grünes Quartier’ in Steinfeld

Grünes Quartier, Steinfeld, Germany

The ‘Grünes Quartier’ is a new housing estate that has been built in Steinfeld, Germany. For the construction of the semi-detached and multi-family houses using solid construction methods, the primary focus was on efficient facade scaffolding solutions and the coordinated use of formwork and scaffolding systems supplied from a single source.

Tailored system solutions enable efficient processes

On the ‘Grünes Quartier’ project, Borgerding Bauunternehmen GmbH decided to use MAXIMO Wall Formwork and PERI UP Facade Scaffolds. The two systems can be used in tandem, which supported efficient operations on site and helped to streamline work processes. In construction projects, flexibility and the ability to react quickly to changes during the construction work are often crucial. Construction times were optimised and disruptions were reduced thanks to the coordinated interplay between the formwork and scaffolding.

“In the construction industry, you have to be able to react quickly to changes on a daily basis,” says Markus Borgerding, a master bricklayer and concrete worker, and managing director of the contractor carrying out the work. “Particularly with a project like the ‘Grünes Quartier’, planning, time management and adaptability are crucial to ensuring we make good progress throughout the construction process.”

Working safely whilst optimising construction processes

The PERI UP Facade Scaffold also provided safe working conditions on the buildings. Thanks to the integrated side protection assembly in advance, the scaffold could be assembled and dismantled from the lower scaffolding level. This improved both occupational safety and efficiency while working on the scaffolding.

The ‘Grünes Quartier’ was built to the highest environmental and energy efficiency standards. This was based on a holistic approach combining energy solutions and material optimisation.

Efficient processes also played a part when it came to the construction work: thanks to structured planning and the strategic use of systems, transport, storage and work processes were optimised and construction times were reduced.

Partnership and proximity to the construction site

A key factor in the success of the project was the close collaboration between the contractor and PERI. The contact persons provided ongoing support for the project – from the planning stage right through to on-site implementation.

“My contacts at PERI are always very responsive and understand exactly what I need – whether it’s to do with the scaffolding or the formwork,” says Borgerding. “The systems fit together like a modular system and help us to stay flexible, even in the face of last-minute changes.”

The project in Steinfeld demonstrates how important adaptable systems and collaborative partnerships are in modern housing construction. The combination of formwork and scaffolding supplied from a single source, complemented by ambitious project goals and flexible construction processes, formed the basis for an efficient and future-focussed approach to implementation.
