Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau BridgeThe eight, 180-m-long tunnel elements of the gigantic tunnel and bridge construction project were cast in eight individual 22.50-m-long segments – monolithically, without ties and in compliance with strict dimensional tolerances. In this way, PERI made a considerable and cost-effective contribution to the completion of the unique link road between Hong Kong and Macau that cuts straight across the South China Sea.
Kičevo Podvis Motorway Bridge, Northern Macedonia
In the mountainous western region of Northern Macedonia, the first section of a new motorway crosses a total of 14 viaducts. Over a distance of around 10 km, some 4,000,000 m³ of earth was excavated and a total of 150,000 t of concrete and 15,000 t of reinforcement were used. We planned and delivered a solution based on four VBC Balanced Cantilever Units used simultaneously in order to complete the bridge construction on schedule and within budget.
From a civil engineering point of view, infrastructure projects such as bridges, retaining walls and tunnels, but also high-rise buildings and towers are the most challenging structures. Simultaneously, the competition and cost pressure we now face from construction companies calls for increasingly efficient building operations in order to cope with rising construction volumes in the face of increasingly demanding schedules. The comprehensive engineering services of PERI Engineering play a decisive role in the effective interplay of formwork and scaffolding technology. The mandate and objectives of PERI Engineering are to consistently optimise system selection and the construction process during the customer’s project.

The cooperation with PERI for finding the best formwork system for the tunnel elements has already started in the tender stage. The flexible but robust traveler system was one of the main points of the execution concept of the tunnel elements. The work continued in the project stage where the execution team and PERI´s technical support team has done all optimization together. The technical support in both stages is extraordinary and you can always count on the PERI team for ideas and good solutions to solve a problem.

Together with PERI, we developed a great concept for the extraordinarily challenging pylon scaffolding on the Williams Bridge. Mounted overnight and laterally positioned on the concrete base, the VARIOKIT bridging made it possible to erect the 60 m high and 200 t PERI UP scaffolding construction without loading the carriageway and negatively affecting the flow of traffic. All deadlines could be met. The combination of VARIOKIT and PERI UP proved to be a good solution for the bracing and anchoring as well with wind force 10 being recorded on a number of occasions. In short, we are very pleased with both the PERI systems and our collaboration - a great example of 'Engineered Solutions'.
