New construction of an acetylene plant, BASF Ludwigshafen, Germany

Project data

Location: Ludwigshafen, Germany

  • New construction of a state-of-the-art acetylene production facility at BASF´s site in Ludwigshafen
  • With a capacity of 90,000 t per year, the plant is scheduled to replace the current facility at the end of 2019 and will operate in accordance with the world's most efficient production processes
  • At peak times, up to 1,300 people work on the jobsite, which covers an area of around 55,000 m², which is the equivalent of almost eight football pitches, and an installation height of up to 90 m
  • One of the first industrial scaffolding projects worldwide to be realised using the BIM method

Requirements

  • Efficient and safe installation of the plant technology featuring more than 400 machines and pieces of equipment along with a 90 km long pipe system and electrical installations
  • Very high work safety standards

3D scaffolding planning in conjunction with PERI materials forms the basis of our innovative scaffolding construction concept in chemical plant engineering. With this concept, we can plan and assemble scaffolding using a cross-trade and forward-looking approach – thereby significantly reducing any modification work. This leads to time and cost savings. With PERI UP Flex, we are also setting new standards regarding work safety in industrial construction. In addition, during the construction of the facility, the planned scaffolding can be reused in future turnarounds. As a result, this reduces our lifecycle costs for scaffolding.

A vision becomes reality: an innovative scaffolding construction concept is being implemented in cooperation with PERI and BASF. The combination of scaffolding management, 3D planning, coordination and execution, in conjunction with PERI UP Flex and BIM, form a perfect overall solution for major industrial projects. The added value of BIM as a planning, communication and documentation tool can already be seen in the planning phase and will play a major role in daily maintenance and turnaround in the future. Planning time as well as costs are minimised. With PERI and BASF, we have found the perfect partners for our vision and its implementation.

PERI solution
