What you'll do on a typical day

  • Sustain yard staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and evaluating job results
  • Maintain all applicable yard functions (shipping, container loading/offloading, returns, cleaning, repairs, reface and assembly)
  • Control inventory levels by monitoring workloads, conducting counts, and utilizing established protocols
  • Safeguarding operations and contents of the yard by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols
  • Ensure yard KPIs are achieved within designated timeframes

What you'll need to be successful

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing the day-to-day operations of a facility/yard
  • Enjoys the role of mentor and coach
  • Critical thinker with advanced problem-solving skills, oriented on details and results, maintaining a strategic outlook
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and with various backgrounds
  • Dedicated to safety and high standards
  • Exceptional judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly adapt new technology 
  • Certified to drive a forklift preferred
  • Exposure to LEAN culture is an asset 
  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
