MULTIPROP System Saves Over One Week
in Construction Process
In November 2004, the construction phase began for the $148 million dollar construction program for the Royal Ottawa Hospital. The additional facility will be designed to accommodate over 200 patients from surrounding areas. Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract to supply the concrete work for this 399,000 ft² (37,000 m²) facility.
In order to keep this project within the scheduled timeline, Bellai needed a quick system which would allow them to shore high bays and areas with column capitals. The PERI modular SKYDECK slab formwork system was chosen for this project as the proven aluminum MULTIPROP was the ideal solution to form these high floors. Using the MULTIPROP in conjunction with the MULTIPROP connector, Bellai was able to assemble the high bay towers on the ground and use a crane to lift the entire section in place.
This significantly improved the schedule and created a safe environment as workers were not required to climb the system to install separate pieces. This MULTIPROP tower was used to shore a cantilevered roof support. This tower reached a height of over 63 ft (18.90 m).

The maximum number of MULTIPROPs on site consisted of over 8.500 MP 480’s. This was another vital component in choosing PERI for this job.
The availability of equipment was crucial in meeting deadlines. In shoring such heights, PERI’s engineering team were able to calculate the loading conditions imposed on this system, ensuring a safe and efficient product and working environment for those around the structure.
