Cost-effective tunnel formwork with standard components

The A 38 federal motorway and the Halle western by-pass fi ll an important gap in the German network of trunk roads. For an unintersected crossing of the new motorway, two 22 m long tunnels both with 13 m cross-sections and 4.50 m headroom were required for the K2267 main road. With standard elements taken from the variable VARIO GT 24 girder wall formwork system along with PERI UP Rosett as type-tested shoring, PERI provided the basis for costeffective construction of the underpass. For the contractors, it was particularly advantageous that only rentable formwork material was used which meant costs could be kept to a minimum.

Delivered ready-for-use to the construction site, the pre-assembled VARIO standard elements formed the main components of the tunnel formwork. The panels were used horizontally and friction-locked connections were provided by means of VARIO couplings, articulated couplings and waler hinges. Heavy-load spindles in the corner areas ensured that the internal formwork could be retracted after concreting work had taken place.

For carrying the loads from the wall and slab formwork, PERI UP Rosett modular scaffolding with only few individual parts was used to form spatial shoring. The complete internal formwork could be moved after striking to the second section on steel rails by means of hydraulic cable winches. The required stability and torsion rigidity of all the formwork and scaffold units ensured that moving procedures could take place in the shortest time possible.

“Already in the offer phase, PERI presented us with a formwork concept which dealt with the diffi cult ancillary conditions in great detail. The execution planning was implemented on site without any problems and the phased deliveries of PERI materials was very effi cient. The entire internal formwork could be moved at one go to the next construction stage. The solution found from close and positive co-operation with PERI provided a cost-effective advantage with a high standard of quality.”
