Raab Bridge, Sárvár, Hungary
Easy to Assemble System Elements
Formwork and Scaffolding for an Extraordinary Structure
After being plagued for many years by traffic congestion in the town centre, the Sárvár bypass is currently being constructed much to the delight of local residents. Near this west Hungarian spa town, the national highway 84 will cross the river Raab on this steel composite design bridge.
For taking the steel arches of the bridge main section – a 78 m span – specially designed reinforced concrete bearings were formed on the river banks. The under 45° inclined bearing walls and the lower elements of the supporting frame complement the arch geometry of the main girder and transfer the forces to the foundations. The river-side surface was softened in part through an arch-like recess.
The contractors decided on a PERI solution based on the VARIO GT 24 system. With the addition of false edges, made of arch-shaped boards, the formwork was assembled according to requirements. The individual crane-movable VARIO units could be quickly attached at the girder joints using extension splices, and at the steel waler connections by means of universal couplings. Due to the high stability of the system connections, and reliable load-carrying characteristics of SLS heavy duty spindles and MULTIPROP props, the required symmetrical construction of the complicated structure, along with high quality concrete finishes, could be achieved.

"Apart from a few special single components for closing very complicated surface details, we could work exclusively with rentable PERI system elements. We were in a position to realize the minimum dimensional tolerance of only 1 cm as well as the reinforced concrete and steel construction connection points."
