Altbach Power Plant in Southern Germany

PERI''s comprehensive solution for whole spectrum of formwork requirements

The ever rising demand as a result of population and economic growth led Neckarwerke AG to extend the Altbach-Plochingen combined heating and power station.
Equipped with the latest emission control technology, its design capacity is sufficient to heat over 45,000 homes.
The consortium of contractors used a wide variety of PERI systems to build the structures.

The walls separating machine and boiler rooms are climbed from +44''3" (13.50 m) to +104''11" (32.00 m) with TRIO on KGF 240 (travelling climbing scaffold). The advantage of the KGF system is that formwork and scaffold form a single unit for lifting with the crane. Retraction of the scaffold leaves a 2''6" (75 cm) wide space that can be used for cleaning and other work.

PERI Systems In Use
  • RUNDFLEX Circular Wall Formwork
  • ST 100 Stacking Tower
  • HD 200 Heavy Duty Prop
  • TRIO
  • RAPID Column formwork
  • The cooling tower By contrast with Units 1 and 3, which are cooled directly with water from the Neckar; for Unit 2 a hybrid cooling system was planned. The fact that this operates without an emission plume allows the height of the structure to be reduced to a third of normal cooling towers. Precast rings had to be produced to hold the fans of the dry cooling section. To avoid transportation costs ZÜBLIN decided to cast these 6''6"/8''2" (2.00/2.50 m) high, 21'' (6.40 m) diameter rings on site with custom made PERI steel formwork. Three were completed every week to an dimensional accuracy of ± 3/8 of an inch (± 1 cm).
