Canaston Bridge is a new development of a road bridge on the A 40 trunk road in between Narberth and Haverfordwest on the edge of Pembrokeshire National Park, Wales. This new bridge crossing will allow continued vehicle access along this busy stretch of road for the future. The original Canaston Bridge will have repairs made to it along with widening of the footpath for the use of pedestrians, equestrians and cyclists and be used as a slip road to take local traffic to the nearby villages.
The principle contractor on site Costain, chose TRUEFORM Ltd to undertake the bridge works. TRUEFORM came to PERI for a range of equipment for the project. The main bridge supports and walls were formed with TRIO wall formwork. For the bridge parapets PERI supplied TRUEFORM with their new VARIOKIT Parapet Bracket.
The VARIOKIT Parapet Bracket is a modular cantilever formwork system specifically designed to enable the construction of concrete parapets to composite steel girder and pre cast concrete bridge decks. The VARIOKIT Parapet Brackets create a system formwork module, installed and dismounted easily and efficiently by crane.
The brackets are suspended by a single diagonal anchor tie which is fixed to the bridge structure by a welded stud or cast in anchor for precast beams. All adjustments, striking and removal of the anchors are carried out from above on the bridge deck enabling safe and fast installation and removal of the system.
