PERI UP provides safe and easy access scaffolding to the roof of iconic stadium project

BC Place is the largest sports, exhibition and entertainment venue of its kind in British Columbia, hosting the province’s most notable events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Upon completion of the Olympic games, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. started working on the $458-million revitalization project to remove the old air-supported stadium roof and build a new retractable roof on the stadium.

PERI was commissioned by PCL to provide access scaffolding to the stadium roof. PERI UP site stairs was the selected solution for this project. PERI supplied two 27.50 m high and two 10 m high stair towers to provide access in various locations of the project.

PERI UP site stair is designed for construction sites with high load and accessibility requirements. The PERI UP site stair is erected as a 10-leg tower with landing widths of 100 cm or 150 cm. With a permissible load of 3.00 kN/m² it can be assembled up to a height of 50 m. Because the steps are 100 cm wide access is easy and comfortable with enough room to pass. Non-slip, perforated steps and decking provide a safe area for workers without any tripping hazard. Since maximum live load of a tower is 40 kN the stairs can be used by up to 50 people simultaneously.
