Safe and Efficient
Climbing Formwork for 50 m High Stairwell Core
Situated in the Milan suburb of Biococca, the building complex has a C-shaped ground plan. The west facade consists of a huge glass plate which covers the whole side of the tower. The 50 m high structure has a basement, thirteen floors as well as a flat roof. The stairwell/lift shafts located at each of the four corners, with a fifth stairwell in the centre, have an important static bracing function in this combi-constructed steel and reinforced concrete building.
In order to bring the construction time of the five stairwells in line with that of the steel construction assembly, PERI created an optimal formwork solution. After finishing a detailed project analysis, during which PERI provided valuable advice and support to the team of engineers, the TRIO panel formwork system (3.90 m high) was chosen with connected CB 240 climbing brackets. Through a carriage mounted on the brackets, the formwork could be retracted by 75 cm for cleaning purposes. Site personnel could continue working, safely protected by the formwork. In addition, the formwork with the brackets was moved as one unit from cycle to cycle which saved time and crane capacity. In this way, the planned twice-weekly climbing cycle could comfortably be achieved.

“Safety had the highest priority on this construction site as other constructions were taking place at the same time. By using PERI systems, we could maintain the highest safety standards from start to finish.”
