Trump Tower, Toronto, Ontario
ACS helps safe and efficient construction of 280 metre high Trump Tower
The first Trump property to be built in Canada, Trump International Hotel & Tower, Toronto will be one of the tallest buildings in the country when completed. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in October 2007 and construction is now well underway with completion expected in 2011. The building will be 60 storey and 282 m tall, with a commanding view of Lake Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area.
The project is located on the southeast corner of Bay and Adelaide Streets, steps from the head offices of Canada’s major banks and financial institutions. For formwork operation in the four cores of building, the ACS system was selected. The Automatic Climbing System (ACS) bracket climbs smoothly and evenly on climbing rails using hydraulic pumps. ACS provides crane-independent forming, striking and climbing and accelerates work procedures on the construction site. The patented ACS 100 climbing mechanism has a lifting power of 100 kN and raises the unit to the next pour without the need of an intermediate anchor.
In this project even the concrete placing boom was installed on the ACS unit and climbs with the ACS, saving even more time for the project. The self-climbing version used in this project, ACS G (G = gallows), functions with one bracket which makes it possible to hang both formwork sides on one gallow. The formwork elements suspended on the gallows are easily movable and are simple to adjust.
ACS climbing operation can take place during all weather conditions. Site personnel are provided with comfortable platforms which ensure safe and efficient working routines.
For forming the outer walls of the tower, RCS system is used. The RCS panels fully enclose working platforms providing ideal safety and protection from the weather for construction workers and at the same time protect the traffic below from falling debris. Because the working platforms can carry high loads, the reinforcing steel for the next climbing lift can
be stored in the platform storage area. A combination of several PERI formwork systems, have brought efficiency to concreting processes in this project.

“PERI RCS is quick and efficient and offers safety aspects on the job site that conventional systems could never deliver. RCS enables a formwork storage area at the working level which minimizes crane time and provides a sense of security for workers and the traffic below.”
