Safe, easy and quick: PERI climbing technology and SKYDECK

The new financial centre of Saudi Arabia is located to the north of downtown Riyadh. Five reinforced cores in four multi-storey buildings in this new city district were constructed with a system combination consisting of ACS self-climbing and RCS rail climbing technology, optimally adapted to the geometrical and static boundary conditions as well as to the requirements of the contractor. The PERI planning took into consideration the varying storey heights, upward tapering walls and a particularly short construction period. The office and apartment towers are between 70 m and 150 m high and have standard individual storey heights of 4.00 m and 3.40 m.

All the formwork scaffolding was combined with VARIO GT 24 girder wall formwork which could easily be adapted to the different storey heights as well as wall breaks without any problems. ACS and RCS for the two highest cores were climbed with hydraulic support; for the lower hights, the RCS modular construction system allowed rail-guided climbing with the support of a crane. For the shafts with larger dimensions, RCS climbing rails also served as platform beams - the rails could be continuously telescoped meaning the lengths of two beams positioned opposite each other were able to be easily adjusted to suit the shaft dimensions and subsequently connected to a working platform.

Apart from the climbing formwork, PERI also supplied the slab formwork in order to be able to realise the rapid construction progress. Around 10,000 m² of SKYDECK panel slab formwork could be quickly and easily installed due to its lightweight aluminium individual components as well as the systematic and thus virtually selfexplanatory shuttering procedure. Through the possibility of early striking, material utilisation was accelerated and on-site material requirements reduced.

“PERI ACS was our first choice for the multi-storey building cores in order to have a reliable solution to realise this critical area. And for the smaller cores, RCS provided an absolutely flexible and very economical climbing formwork system.”
