Sukaf Apartment House, Lokeren, Belgium
High-quality concrete surfaces with MAXIMO and GRIDFLEX
In the centre of the Belgian town of Lokeren, an existing building was converted into a residential complex with six loft apartments. In addition to the building conversion, a 12 m high front-positioned elevator and stairway facility was to be constructed which would serve as access to the three new floors.
For the rectangular 7.80 m x 3.00 m reinforced concrete extension with visible concrete surfaces, the architect demanded a neat joint and tie arrangement as well as centrically-positioned tie points. With help of the MAXIMO panel formwork, this could be realised without any additional costs. Above the 60 cm high base, the walls were concreted in three sections. In order to avoid any imperfections in the concrete finish, suspension of the KG 240 climbing brackets was carried out using the tie points of the previous wall formwork concreting cycle. DK concrete cones provided a visually attractive accentuation of the concrete surfaces.
Two 18 cm thick cast in-situ intermediate slabs, carried by integrated beams, divide up the former hall into three apartment floors. The around 20 m x 11 m slab surfaces were formed with GRIDFLEX girder grid slab formwork. The lightweight aluminium components gauranteed easy working procedures without crane support and, in addition, provided a systematic assembly sequence for fast forming times. Furthermore, the GRIDFLEX could be adapted extremely flexibly to spatial geometry. Shuttering took place from below and the freechoice of formlining could subsequently be safely installed on the accessible girder grid – with the required structure for the visible slab soffits.

“With MAXIMO, it was possible for us to determine the tie positions in the required grid arrangement – and the slab formwork operations could be accelerated with GRIDFLEX. The simple handling of both systems was a great experience for our personnel.”
