Coal-Fired Power Plant, Central Bocamina II, Coronel, Chile
High bearing capacity with lightweight individual components for heavy loads
The power station used to generate electricity for the Chilean port was extended by the addition of a 370 MW block. For the installation of the turbine, a reinforced concrete structure had to be built. With ground plan dimensions of 35.50 m x 12.00 m, the 2.80 m thick intermediate slab stores rests on eight massive columns at a height of 11.20 m.
A stable sub-construction consisting of MULTIPROP towers, as well as a girder grid beam comprising SRU steel walers and GT 24 formwork girders, transfer a total of 2,000 t of concreting loads into the concrete foundation. With MRK 90 and MRK 120 frames, the lightweight aluminium MP 625 individual props can be connected to form high load-bearing towers – frames are attached to the interior and external tubes of the props as required. Horizontal pre-assembly of the MULTIPROP load towers took place on the ground. Due to the vertical couplings, a total extension length of 10.82 m up to the bottom edge of the steel waler could be achieved.
For forming the 2.80 m thick reinforced concrete slab, including the 5.50 m to 10.75 m wide box-outs, vertically-positioned TRIO 270 panel formwork elements were used. For the missing 10 cm, filler timber could be clamped to the TRIO frame by means of BFD alignment couplers. Cantilevered GT 24 girders of the sub-structure served here as working platforms which were supported in the area of the concrete columns with CB 160 climbing brackets.

Project Manager
“The MULTIPROP towers have a very high load-bearing capacity. The PERI system is easy and safe to install and, beside which, we receive competent construction site support from PERI engineers. These are reasons enough for our lasting partnership.”
