Avala TV Tower, Belgrade, Serbia

New landmark with panoramic view

A gigantic tripod forms the base of the 200- metre high TV tower on the Avala Mountain. The tower shaft is positioned about nine metres over the ground in the middle of this tripod. The base supports with changing cross-sections were formed using VARIO GT 24, raised formwork units made of VARIOKIT elements as well as the RCS climbing formwork system supported the forward and reversed-inclined formwork panels. The side formwork could be safely operated from the PERI UP Rosett platforms.

The enormous loads from the subsequent section - from the underside of the shaft up to the top edge of the crown-shaped upstand beam - had to be carried by shoring under the shaft up to the monolithic connection of the tripod and crown. A combination of different load towers taken from the PERI UP modular scaffold system along with MULTIPROP towers formed this loadcarrying system to safely accommodate the more than 330 tonnes. Construction of the tower shaft above this was carried out using a combination of PERI RCS and VARIO. In the lower area with a changing shaft cross-section, a crane lifted the elements to the next concreting cycle in each case, for the subsequent triangular standard cross-sections with only 15 cm wall thicknesses, the contractor used the mobile hydraulically-driven RCS climbing devices.

The sub-construction for the viewing platforms begins at a height of 100 m. Horizontally- arranged PERI SB brace frames formed the basis for two working platforms. VARIOKIT units were positioned on these and served as assembly support for the pre-cast walls which was connected to a sub-construction of the viewing levels via cast-inplace beams. Depending on the imposed load and support possibility, the slabs of the further five platforms were constructed with PERI customised tables, supported on PERI UP Rosett scaffold area-by-area.

    Technical Director

“We want to be the best - therefore, we work together with PERI. This is already our fourth joint large-scale project. With the help of the PERI systems and support, we were able to make up for two months of weatherrelated delays without any problems. Our trust and confi dence in technology and service has been confi rmed once again.”
