Belchatow Power Plant, Poland
Cost-effective shoring for high loads
In power plant construction, large-volume building dimensions with massive reinforced concrete components have to built whilst, at the same time, complying with small dimensional tolerances - so it was for the brown coal power station in Belchatow. Slab thicknesses were 25 cm and 80 cm with downstand beam heights of 2.20 m to 3.20 m. In the top slab, four huge reinforced concrete rings, each with a 6 m internal radius and 3 m to 4 m high, were integrated which serve to accommodate the 55 m high steel silos.
The falsework combination comprised of ST 100 stacking towers as well as towers comprised of MULTIPROP aluminium slab props connected with MRK frames. In addition, in those areas with higher load concentrations, MULTIPROP towers were interlocked. Thus, the tower cross-sections - 90 x 90 cm internally and 120 x 150 cm externally - formed extremely high load-bearing units. Supported by ST 100 stacking towers, the loads from the over 25 m high partially cantilevered slabs could be safely transferred to the ground.
PERI engineers positioned the MULTIPROP and ST 100 for the upper level on a girder grid. This was formed from HDT main beams from the HD 200 heavy load system. As a result, optimal load distribution was achieved on the beams of the 25 cm thick intermediate slab thus avoiding the need for any material, time as well as costintensive temporary supports.
The 3 m thick reinforced concrete bearing for the turbo-generator was installed at a height of 18 metres -for this, HD 200 heavyduty props were combined with HDT main beams. The coupling of three HD 200 sections, arranged one above the other, provided here a reduction in the buckling lengths; furthermore, through the combination of HD 200 prop segments made of steel and aluminium, further load optimization was achieved.

“The biggest foundations for turbogenerators in Poland is part of the new Belchatow power station. For this, PERI developed a technically perfect shoring solution together with Budimex Dromex. The PERI systems, in connection with the outstanding logistics service, allowed us to realise the project in a short construction time.”
