Park Tower, Chicago, USA
Slabs and Walls in one pour
PERI were commissioned to supply the formwork for the foundations, retaining walls, columns, walls and floor slabs of the Park Tower Project on North Michigan Avenue.
A hotel complex was erected in a very short construction time, in which there are 70 floors, 205 rooms and 122 apartments. For the total area of around 70,000 m² of usable floor space there was 36,000 m³ of concrete and 4,000 t of reinforcement to be used. The main contractor had clear ideas about the construction sequences. The requirement was to construct two complete floors each week. This demanded the walls and floors to be cast in one pour. The PERI Engineers fulfilled these demands and delivered a tailor-made formwork solution.
The loads from the concrete distributors were also to be carried by the ACS platforms. The ACS system was able to safely carry the high dead load of 3.5 t and to climb, from lift to lift, together with the distributor.
The use of the SKYDECK aluminium panel slab formwork in connection with the MULTIPROP props proved to be especially advantageous for the floor slabs. The aluminium parts of this system are very light. The heaviest component, the SLT 225 main beam, weighs only 15.4 kg. With SKYDECK the floor slabs in the core area could be quickly formed by hand – without crane support.
