Formwork and scaffolding for large-scale project
with 37-metre beams

Located in the Munich city centre, the European Patent Office was extended through the addition of two building complexes. The two buildings were constructed in an offset position to each other over a length of nearly 200 m and featured modern office space on six floors.

The basement stretched in part over three floors and was designed for maximum flexible use without any protruding walls and columns. Here, seven 37 m long cast-inplace beams carry the loads of the upper floors which are then transferred into the outer walls.

For forming the main beams and the intermediate slabs, load-bearing intermediate levels were set up using PERI UP Rosett modular scaffolding system as well as GT 24 and VT 20 formwotk girders at heights of 7.50 m and 9.50 m. For the required supporting frame construction, PERI UP shoring towers were connected in a transverse direction with widths of 4.50 m to form socalled Stützturmscheiben. Integrated, additional rows of legs underneath the beam axes ensured a safe transfer of loads in those areas with high load concentrations.

Lateral haunches resulted in variable beam heights of between 1.50 m and 3.50 m. The associated continuous load variations required a fl exible arrangement of the PERI UP shoring sections in a longitudinal direction. Here, the sections could already be coupled using 25 cm ledgers during assembly to form stable, spatial units.

PERI engineers could provide the required proof of stability in the form of a well prepared and detailed static calculation. The complicated building geometry with various beam thicknesses and slab offsets made it necessary to document all different areas separately. Basis for the PERI project statical analysis was the PERI UP type test along with the available technical approval of all the PERI individual components used.
