Spiral ramps with complicated structure
formed accurately and cost-effectively

With around four million passengers each year, Nuremburg airport is ranked number ten on the list of German airports. The number of passengers has risen continuously over the past few years which has made the construction of a new multi-storey car park necessary. Development of the P3 is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2007 and a total of 2,150 parking spaces will be available on seven levels. Access takes place by means of two spiral ramps with one ramp each for entry and exit.

For the construction of the two 21-metre high reinforced concrete cores, the contractor consortium of Schick with Völkel & Heidingsfelder, opted for cost-effective PERI formwork combinations. The 50 cm thick walls of the triangular-shaped ground plan, an equilateral triangle with rounded corners, could be efficiently formed using PERI circular and panel formwork systems. With the seamless combination of RUNDFLEX and TRIO elements, which are easily coupled by mean of BFD alignment couplers, the required shape is achieved in the most effective way. Length compensations with filler timber are also bridged with the BFD coupler so that the entire floor plan can be monolithically constructed in 5.30 m high concreting sections

In four climbing cycles, the external formwork is lifted from section to section on CB 160 climbing brackets. Internally, working platforms using PERI UP modular scaffold and VT 20 formwork girders provide the most economical solution. After completion of each cycle, these are simply extended to the next platform.

In order to be able to accurately and quickly form and concrete the spiral-shaped ramps, PERI engineers designed an ideal formwork combination for this using PERI customized slab tables consisting of rentable PERI standard components as well as project-related pre-assembled 3D box-outs. This means the inclined cantilevered slab in the direction of the ramps can be precisely formed including tapering 50 to 20 cm from the core outwards. The easy handling as well as fast and safe vertical transport with the PERI transportation fork allow the finishing of a complete 360-degree turn in weekly cycles.

A particular advantage for the contractors was the versatile application possibilities provided by the PERI products. With the addition of stair tower elements, the PERI UP modular scaffold system could be simply extended simply to provide the construction site access. Height adjustment between landing and parking deck levels takes place extremely flexibly with PERI UP system components.
