Compact movable formwork units for cast-in-place grandstands
The production of this 155 m long and 73 m wide multi-functional building, complete with a grandstand that caters for up to 4,000 spectators, placed high requirements on the construction progress itself as well as the formwork materials used. The PERI concept involved the use of lightweight and compact formwork units to allow effi cient moving procedures on the construction site.
Due to given geometry and concreting loads, PERI UP Rosett modular scaffold was used to form the ideal shoring system. With SRU steel walers – rigidly connected by means of UK 70 universal couplers – as well as GT 24 lattice girders, raised formwork units could be installed, the same as those normally used in bridge construction.
For the reliable transfer of normal and shear forces between the inclined grandstand and horizontal landing formwork, PERI adjustable waler hinges were used.
The self-supporting grandstand construction consisted of eight sections for the straight long sides and likewise for the rounded front ends. The grandstand underside of the curved areas resembles the form of a truncated cone. In each case, 12 to 16 metre long grandstand elements, carried only by the shear walls of the staircases, were constructed in just one concreting step with the PERI solution.
Planning of the moving units and individual assembly phases took place in close and constructive co-operation between PERI and the contractors. In this way, time and cost-saving moving procedures could be achieved. After lowering the landing and parapet wall formwork, the modular formwork and scaffold units were moved using the PERI transportation trolley and lifted to the next cycle by crane.
