Geometric diversity with combinable systems
brought professionally into shape
Designed as a joint diplomatic representation of the five northern countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, an ensemble of buildings was created for Berlin that signifies the idea of northern cooperation.
Individually designed structures with the most differently shaped building components and high demands for the surfaces required the whole knowledge of the contractors. Flexible formwork systems were demanded that could be perfectly adjusted to the difficult shapes and save the site expensive improvisations.
Radii in the course of the “worm-shaped” walls could be easily carried out with RUNDFLEX and GRV Articulated walings. Concreting was carried out without ties, at the wish of the architect, the loads being safely taken by SB Brace frames. Straight and arched walls within a concreting cycle were shaped through the combined use of TRIO and RUNDFLEX units. Walls that were to be rounded on the ends were efficiently completed with TRIO and half-forms from the SRS circular column formwork system. In other words, diverse tasks that could be almost exclusively realised with standard systems.
